Authentication errors for some API users

On October 20, 2026, between 9:35 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. PDT (16:35–17:35 UTC), some users in and around Illinois experienced errors connecting to auth.openai.com: http://auth.openai.com, including during workload identity token exchanges. A configuration issue caused these requests to fail. The configuration change was rolled back, and the issue was resolved. This incident is being published retrospectively.
