《大英百科全书》及其旗下子公司韦氏词典已在曼哈顿联邦法院起诉OpenAI，指控该公司滥用其参考资料训练人工智能模型。大英百科全书在周五提交的起诉书中称，由微软投资的OpenAI使用其在线文章、百科词条及词典条目来训练其旗舰聊天机器人ChatGPT，使其能够回应用户指令，并利用人工智能生成的内容摘要“蚕食”了大英百科全书的网站流量。
两家公司的发言人周一并未立即就这一起诉置评。
这起案件是版权方（包括作家和新闻媒体）起诉科技公司未经许可使用其资料训练人工智能系统的众多高风险诉讼之一。大英百科全书去年曾对人工智能初创公司Perplexity AI提起相关诉讼，目前该案仍在审理中。
人工智能公司辩称，其系统将受版权保护的内容转化为全新成果，属于合理使用。
大英百科全书在诉讼中称，OpenAI非法复制了其近10万篇文章用于训练GPT大语言模型。起诉书表示，ChatGPT生成的内容与大英百科全书的词条、词典释义及其他内容“几乎逐字相同”，分流了原本会访问其网站的用户。
大英百科全书还指控OpenAI侵犯其商标，暗示自身获授权复制相关内容，并在人工智能虚假“幻觉”中不当引用大英百科全书。
大英百科全书要求金额未定的经济赔偿，并请求法院发布禁令阻止上述侵权行为。
